Transcript of Interview

Interviewer : Now I am going to ask sir about discipline how does discipline is carried out by officers in government along with discipline carried out by Politicians in Parliament , State Legislature , City council .And how does this both guys discipline works with each other when they are together.

Dr Avkash Jadhav : Some people feel that what I do is discipline what others do is not at all discipline .In my 24 years of carrer in teaching in st xaviers in the third year I always asks students who are interested to go in Politics . But unfortunately no one is interested to go in politics every year in 100 students of class room only 1-2 students take their hands up along with that in my 24 years career I have only seen 10 students raising their hands up . In the elite class , rich class , educated intellectual they only limit themselves to a particular place of suitable atmosphere  I have always observed that this type of people sit only in Air Conditioner and take up decision/talk about our welfare of  country but in reality if you want to do anything you need to go among people get into them .

I recall that in 2012 i was called to MATOSHRI bunglow where I for the first time in my life met Uddhav Thackeray . Still I did not knew what was going to happen with me and this place was unknown to me as I did not knew why I was called . After Uddhav Thackeray he told me that Mahanagar Palika Elections are over and we have decided to give your name as nominated councilor in the city council of Mumbai .After hearing this I made a daring of questioning him asking him “why me only ?”  then he answered “We have seen only your work till now “ (As I have done a lot of protest in the past from 2000-2011 to declare SANJAY GANDHI NATIONAL PARK as no Plastic ZONE )  “What will be my use “ ?  Uddhav sir answered back saying “We are looking for a face which has no political background at all “ he also said that ‘By tomorrow you take time and inform me ‘ through out night it was a difficult night for me that day I still remember that I did not slept . I came back asked my friends , family few friends said no to this offer . Politics , Shiv Sena about that all were not encouraging me .In the end I went to Office of Sir Uddhav Thackeray and said yes to him as I felt being professor I expect so many things , tasks , activities to be done from my students in the context of saying them that you are the future of nation . In future after 5 years I will have a story with pride to tell people how I ignored this opportunity but I will have another story to tell I accepted this opportunity as a challenged and did something for society like 1,2,3,4,5to 10 works I did .

When it comes to discipline it is altogether in bureaucracy it works according to policies and in the frame work of  law  today the entire country is ran by bureaucracy not by Politicians .How to make things done from them and how to make them work (bureaucracy) this is never taught in any college .Political science taught in class room is totally different the way students/any  body will notice outside the classroom . I still tell my students when I entered politics I had to unlearn to learn politics seriously I had to keep aside all my academic knowledge and had to learn again when I entered politics . Coming ahead , while learning I understood how to make things done from bureaucracy how to fix them in that same law this is also a skill that needs to be learnt .

As a role model Teachers have a big responsibility apart from teaching and taking salary what do they do beyond ? the society in which you live you have to contribute something  do you encourage your students . Students whatch you with small observation they will think “Does he only keep speaking or does he do something work “ . Teachers have the responsibility on their shoulders to create a great nation .

Interviewer : Many intellectual people get offer from Political Parties but most of them ignore it thinking , assuming that politics is bad and dirty . I want sir to shed light up on a fact that after becoming a member of Municipal council what he did to get rid of the pride or high ego . With that i want to know your work on TB patients  .

Dr Avkash Jadhav : Power always corrupts . I got the power but I have always interpreted ‘NAGARSEVAK’ as sevak of Nagar in that manner we must look ourselves . Genuinely the ego of power too went into my head when I travelled in Mumbai local I saw people around with a narrow perception but immediately I protected my self from getting trapped into the illusion that I am very powerful . By thinking in this way that I have been given power with a aim , thus it is not power but a responsibility given to me at the end .In order to liberate my self from the illusion that I am very powerful I did a solution I started travelling by second class pass within a week after becoming NAGARSEVAK though for many years I travelled by first class pass when I was a professor(before nagarsevak) . I hardly for 5 times I bought car when I was in MAHANAGAR PALIKA  I preferred to travel by local train in that people discussed a lot about social issues and I heard them saying this as many times I found people sitting with open newspaper in teir hands in this the peoples voice never reached upto government but travelling among the people I got the opportunity to take their voice above .

When I travelled through BEST I understood problems of Bus in Mumbai by talking with conductor of the bus . That’s the reason I lost this illusion that I am very powerful and this were the ways that kept me grounded then after my tenure got over of being a NAGARSEVAK I did not regretted it thinking what next now if this is finished now . I Belive everyones qualities are not defiened by the position in which they are dwelling / residing but to be true the real meaning of this positions which we all hold in the government , organization is only for the welfare of people and that the reson motive for  which this positions exist , in the end for the good of people only .

His another question was TB . In Mumbai TB hospital is in Shivdi is in a very bad , pathetic condition I came to know from a docter . Immediately I went to the TB hospital and all were astonished to know that for a first time a political person with power has came to take thei r look . I went into evening in the hospital 7-9pm I inquired , talked with all the staff , doctors , I understood from them that they need equipments which can save their 12 hours time of doing a surgery and they will be able to finish the surgery only in 4 hours . Beauracracy troubled me a lot saying that a NAGARSEVAK fund is never used for a TB hospital under MAHANAGARPALIKA and legally by convention it is not possible .You cannot use it and its not permissible I solved this dilemma / problem . I convinced them that this NAGARSEVAK fund under legal frome work can be given for a TB HOSPITAL .So I got 40 lakh rupees fund and I gave them best instruments , machines for TB .In august 2018 I went to the TB HOSPITALCOLLECTED AND DONATED THEM 600 BOOKS AND FOUNDED A LIBRARY IN THE HOSPITAL after my tenure was over in 2017. Sometimes the beuacracy administers the country and system abviously they will trouble you when it comes to work to be done from your hands but if the work is for strictly welfare of people then you must have that persona to make this happen and create a new corner and this depends on your study and courage .

Intervier : We have all heard his story , he has even wrote a letter to JAPAN PM ON METRO ISSUE OF MUMBAI .Character , Knowledge , Discipline is very rare nuclear bomb combination that we have seen till now in this nation however we have witnessed this in  sir in the context of the political party which took sir by making him NAGARSEVAK a nominated one .My last question is does sir has any question to me?

Dr Avkash Jadhav : I don’t have any question only I have is a lot lot blessings from my heart . I belive it’s a great thing started by them but we must not become weak by throwing the future of nation on the future generation whoever are present now they and we must all work now to solve the problems we are facing .
